Captivating Cambodia: Enter Angkor Thom

Angkor Thom literally means “great city” in Khmer and was the last capital city of the glorious Khmer empire. It houses a number of a temples and sights  making it a popular tourist destination.

Like a western medieval castle, Angkor Thom is walled off and surrounded by a moat. There are entrance gates on all 4 sides of the city. Most tourists enter via the South Gate.

The gate is really narrow though. Vans, cars, motorcycles and people all have to negotiate through that small space into and out of Angkor Thom.

Once pass the gate, trees and foliage line up along a road which leads to Bayon, probably the most popular temple after Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Stay tuned for that in my next post.

  1. @ Richard: Thank you for your kind words 🙂

@ HB: Thanks for the encouragement bro. Would love to share more photos but been really busy with work. To make matters worse my monitor is dying on me. Extremely frustrating to be editing photos on a flickering screen 😦
